Hosei – CSUH Pre-MBA Program

Hosei University (HU) and California State University Hayward (CSUH) jointly offer the Pre-MBA Program at HU’s Kudan Campus in Tokyo. The Program started in 2002 with three business foundation courses in Financial Accounting, Marketing, and Business Ethics. In this, our third year, the program has expanded to six foundation courses with the addition of Managerial Accounting, Financial Decisions, and Organization Management. The five of the six courses are delivered weekly over the Internet from the Hosei University Research Institute, California (HURIC) in Burlingame, California, using a synchronous long distance conference system that includes an interactive white board. Experienced CSUH instructors teach a group of Japanese working professionals who sit in a Tokyo classroom every Saturday morning.

The synchronous long distance conference system is equipped with audio, visual, and interactive presentation tools, the last of which can handle both computer-generated lecture notes as well as handwritten notes made during the lecture. Every element of the system is available to support a real-time classroom experience. Students view the instructor on a large screen in front of their classroom, and the lecture notes appear on a second large screen in front of the classroom as well as on an individual PC screen on the student’s desk.

Each lecture is recorded and, along with the lecture notes, can be viewed on a password-secured Web site throughout the duration of the given course. This is done to help students better understand lectures given in English as well as those who cannot make it to the class on weekends for work-related reasons.
