Ro-man2003 RO-MAN 2003, the 12 th IEEE International Workshop on Robot and Human Interactive Communication, will be held from October 31 ~ November 2, 2003 at Westin San Francisco Airport Hotel, in Millbrae, California. (http://www.ro-man.org/) The RO-MAN workshop addresses fundamental issues of co-existence of human and intelligent machines such as robots in order to bring welfare and happiness to our society. The RO-MAN workshop also aims at expanding those research outcomes to the real-world applications for the enhancement of human-competence in such intelligent machine and creates better interaction and collaboration between human and robots. The workshop provides a forum where philosophical, technological as well as psychological aspects of collaboration and interactive communication between robots and humans are discussed. This is the first time the RO-MAN workshop is held in the United States. The workshop has been truly an international event in that it has been held in Japan, France, Italy and Germany in previous years. HURIC is serving as its secretariat for this year's workshop. In addition to a number of stimulating papers to be presented at the workshop, there will be a tour of robotics companies and labs in the Bay Area on November 3, 2003. Registration for both the workshop and the tour will open on August 1, 2003 on RO-MAN 2003 Home page.
